Frequently Asked Questions

How does an ionizer eliminate electrostatic charge?

An ionizer eliminates electrostatic charge by flooding the air around the charged material with a balanced mix of positive and negative ions. When a positively charged surface encounters negative ions in the air, the ions are attracted to the surface and neutralize the excess positive charge. The same happens with negatively charged surfaces attracting positive ions. The key to effective static elimination is ion balance — the ionizer must produce equal quantities of positive and negative ions so it neutralizes charge without adding new charge of the opposite polarity.

What is Hyperion and what makes it different from other ionizers?

Hyperion is Meech's flagship range of pulsed DC ionizing bars — the most advanced static eliminators available. What makes Hyperion different: 1) 24 V electrodes — unlike conventional ionizers that run at 5-7 kV, Hyperion uses safe, low-voltage 24 V DC electrode pins. This means less pin erosion, longer maintenance intervals, and safer operation. 2) Pulsed DC technology — delivers ions over 300-600 mm range (vs 25-75 mm for AC). 3) Ion current monitoring — each bar reports its actual ion output to the SmartControl Touch controller. If performance drops, you know immediately. 4) IPS (Intelligent Power Supply) — the power supply is integrated into the bar, eliminating separate HV cables. The Hyperion range includes models for different applications: 971IPS for long range, 924IPS for general purpose, 945IPS for mid-range, and 314IPS for hygienic environments.

Why is static electricity problematic in industrial manufacturing?

Static electricity causes six major problems in manufacturing: 1) Dust contamination — charged surfaces attract airborne particles, ruining surface finishes and coatings. 2) Material jams — sheets and films stick together or to machine parts. 3) Misalignment — labels, packaging, and printed materials misregister during feeding. 4) Operator shocks — painful discharges reduce productivity and worker comfort. 5) Fire and explosion risk — in environments with flammable dust or solvents, electrostatic discharge can be an ignition source. 6) ESD damage — electrostatic discharge destroys sensitive electronic components during assembly.
